Traffic medicine · level 2

Truck, bus, taxi.
Level 2 medical.

The Swiss traffic-medicine examination for licence categories C, C1, D, D1 and the professional passenger transport permit (code 121) — for applicants and for the periodic check. Right at Zurich HB.

Who needs it

If you drive for a living, you are checked regularly.

Only a physician with traffic-medicine recognition at level 2 or higher may carry out the examination — for the first examination as well as for every check.

Application

New category or permit

You are applying for a licence in category C, C1, D or D1, for the professional passenger transport permit (code 121, e.g. taxi or limousine) or for the trolleybus permit (code 110).

Recognition: level 2 or higher

Cost: CHF 200, payable at the practice

Check

Periodic control examination

You already hold one of these categories or permits. The road traffic office (Strassenverkehrsamt) writes to you when the check is due. From the date of the letter you usually have three months; extensions are generally not granted.

Interval: every 5 years · from 50 every 3 years · from 75 every 2 years

Cost: CHF 200, payable at the practice

Process

Book, get examined, report to the office.

1

Book

Online at drharris.ch/termin. Free slots are often available within a few days. Book as soon as the letter from the road traffic office arrives.

2

Examination

Eyesight, mobility and strength, heart and circulation, neurology, and a review of your medication and medical history.

3

Report to the office

The report goes electronically to the road traffic office, using the access code on your letter. The office sends you its decision.

Please bring: the letter or form from the road traffic office with the access code, your driving licence or ID card, glasses or contact lenses, a list of your medication and any recent medical reports.

Cost & practical details

CHF 200, right at the main station.

Self-pay, not health insurance

The examination is an assessment for the road traffic office, not treatment — health insurance does not cover it. Level 2 costs CHF 200, payable at the practice by card or cash. Companies with several drivers: terms on request (praxis.romanos@hin.ch).

German, English or Greek

The practice is at Bahnhofplatz 5, 4th floor, right at Zurich HB. The examination can be held in German, English or Greek. If you drive at night, you can do the night and shift work examination in the same appointment; your employer pays for that one. For the check from age 75 with a category B licence: driving licence medical, level 1.
